Centre for Sustainable Fashion

We are Centre for Sustainable Fashion (CSF), an award-winning  University of the Arts London (UAL) research, education and knowledge exchange centre based at London College of Fashion (LCF).

We provoke,

challenge and question the fashion status quo.

Inviting ideas of the way things might be, based on the core value of living well together in a more than human world.

CSF Exhibits at British Textile Biennial in East Lancashire | 2 October - 2 November 2025

CSF researchers Dr Mila Burcikova and Professor Lucy Orta will be showcasing their current research at the 2025 British Textile Biennial

in East Lancashire, UK, ‘THE FUTURE WAS ALWAYS THERE – from sea snails to Star Wars’, from 2 October to 2 November. Both researchers question the developments in fashion and textiles that have pushed the planet and its resources to extremes and seek to uncover ways to reset ecosystem balance.

Future Fashion Landscapes

CSF's Dr Mila Burcikova will be presenting 'Future Fashion Landscapes' (FFL) at Pendle Heritage Centre. The exhibition will showcase the outcomes of a 12-month collaboration between CSF, South East England Fibreshed and South West England Fibreshed.

By connecting local designers and farmers, the project highlights the fibre production and biodiversity enhancement potential of farms involved in landscape-specific grazing programmes with native and rare breed sheep.

Homo Mondialis

CSF's Prof Lucy Orta will be honoured with a retrospective exhibition of her textile-led practice work spanning 30-years in the crypt of Blackburn Cathedral.

The exhibition will encompass a major new biennial commission, exploring traditional vernacular and textile weaving technology to reimagine a Bedouin tent, ‘Majlis: House of Hair’. The resulting textile sculpture will be a speculative response to nomadic living in the extreme scenario of mass desertification.
