During London Fashion Week last week CSF launched the world’s first open-access digital course in luxury fashion and sustainability. Co-created with Kering, it’s been a year of hard work bringing together our research, approaches and knowledge that have been honed over the last decade as well as insights and expertise from Kering’s sustainability team.
“Fashion & Sustainability: Understanding Luxury Fashion in a Changing World” is an online course. And it’s free. Lasting 6 weeks. The content builds on an existing 15 week CSF x Kering Masters curriculum Empowering Imagination but has been condensed into an accessible online format that includes films, podcasts, activities and discussion points. It’s a great starting point for fashion professionals and fashion students enhancing an awareness and understanding of world leading innovative sustainable fashion research and business practice. The course is about exploring what is important to you, and how you can apply your ideas creatively towards effective change. You are engaging in a study that the world needs, that students want and that employers request.
The course brings together some of the world’s leading experts to create a course which pioneers new knowledge and practise in fashion and sustainability. On the course you will hear from a variety of leading voices including CSF’s Prof Dilys Williams and other members of the CSF team alongside Marie-Claire Daveu, Kering’s Chief Sustainability Officer and Head of International Institutional Affairs and Eva von Alvensleben, Head of Sustainability Strategy for Kering.
Some of the subjects covered by the course include: why sustainability in fashion matters, contextualising sustainability for a changing world, sourcing for luxury fashion and the tools and methods needed to make informed decisions. By the end of the course you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of key sustainability agendas and issues and current and emerging perspectives, design approaches, and business strategies relevant to fashion and sustainability for the luxury sector. They will also be able to define their own personal perspective on fashion and sustainability.
Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the challenges we face – the course aims to encourage learners to focus on what’s important to them and creates their own manifesto for change. The course is a chance for us to empower fashion professionals to tackle some of the environmental and social challenges that lie ahead.
The first course starts on the 9 April, sign up for the course.
