Rawan Maki

An exploration of key levers influencing sustainability goals for the fashion sector in Bahrain.

Rawan explores the social, material, and behavioural transitions required to move towards design for sustainability in the Gulf and Arab world, using Bahrain as a case study.

Rawan Maki

Rawan’s research explores fashion sustainability in Bahrain. She investigates a non-western approach to design for sustainability, considering the Arab Gulf as both post-colonial and neo-colonial, and viewing fashion experience in the Gulf through “lived experience” and its own ontology. Her methods include a Delphi study and qualitative interviews to capture holistic viewpoints in the Arab country, such as with social activists, consultants, designers, craft communities, civil servants, and consumers.
