Dendi Anugrah Alrashid
Fashion Social Entrepreneur, Teman Merakit
I experienced the cruelty of the fashion industry, from how it polluted the Citarum River in my hometown where I got my water and drinking supply, to working 12 hours per day under human-sized loom machines, to being laid off without prior notice during COVID from a sustainably certified company.
Since 2020, I have shifted my career to social entrepreneurship, working with grassroot fashion communities in Bali and implementing ethical and sustainable fashion practices. I founded Teman Merakit and my aspiration is simple: I just want to do good and right things for the industry I love and the people in it. In my spare time, I love doing nothing, going to the beach with my three dogs and watching the sunset.
What does stewardship mean to you?
As someone working with artisans, I've learned the meaning of stewardship from them as a craft made of patience and responsibility - using only the finest materials, never created in pursuit of perfection, but rather for longevity, as they contain the wisdom and stories of humanity and the universe that must be passed down through generations.
