Sustainability in Action
Six Key Areas
Working towards the future requires a framework for balance in design, which requires some specific considerations. Here we outline six key areas for designers to consider when developing a concept, a strategy or a product, each with case studies reflecting and applying this way of thinking.
As designers, we encourage:
- An inquisitive approach – be curious, ask questions.
- Critical reflection – think through rather than look at the opportunities and challenges that we face.
- Remember, sustainability is not a fixed point, neither is it a product in itself. Through these resources, we look at the relationship of the designer to what they produce and how people interact with pieces and services, as this is the measure of the impacts of the designers’ work.
We hope that these resources encourage you to devise new ideas that go way beyond where we currently stand whilst evolving current practice. Together, we can find transformational and evolutional ways in which to create a responsive fashion industry that challenges what we do and how we do it. We look forward to hearing and seeing your responses.
