The Centre for Sustainable Fashion has published a number of reports into sustainability awareness, engagement and innovation across the fashion industry.
Volume 1.0: Fashion & Sustainability, A Snapshot Analysis (March 2008)
Highlighting opportunities for the CSF to meet the industry’s need for a networked and focused approach to sustainable activity in the fashion industry.
Volume 2.0: Fashioning the Future (October 2008)
Profiling the designers, radicals and change makers involved in the groundbreaking Fashioning the Future Summit, including the finalists of the Fashioning the Future 2008 Awards. Contributions from Lucy Orta, Nicole Hahn, Michael McDonough, Dr Frances Corner and Anthony Kleanthous.
Volume 3.0: Tactics for Change (June 2009)
Documenting the debates raised at the Fashioning the Future Summit, a milestone event run by the CSF in October 2008, and strategising to propose new possibilities for the fashion sector which minimise the negative social, environmental and cultural effects of our practices and maximise connection, innovation and positivity. The keynote speeches from Michael McDonough, Anthony Kleanthous and Sungjoo Kim are also available to view.
Volume 4.0: Green Collar Graduates for the Fashion Industry (July 2009)
UK higher education colleges and universities play a unique and important role in the education of ‘green collar’ fashion graduates, to equip them with the tools to create a more sustainable fashion industry. Focusing on the links between employability and sustainability, we have examined the needs and expectations of fashion industry employers in relation to education in sustainability within fashion related courses. This research has been funded by the Higher Education Academy.
Volume 5.0: Promoting Sustainable Indian Textiles (July 2010)
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), through the Sustainable Development Dialogue (SDD) fund, backed the Centre for Sustainable Fashion (CSF) at London College of Fashion and Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF), New Delhi to run a project to promote Indian sustainable textiles. This report is only one of the dissemination tools associated with the project. The project film, images and website should be viewed in conjunction with this report. Visit Shared Talent India online resource that highlights the many culturally vibrant and ecologically sensitive textiles and textile processing techniques that both exist and are being developed in India.
Volume 6.0: Steps towards Sustainability in Fashion – Snapshot Bangladesh (March 2011)
This publication offers three case studies, alongside ideas of how they could be used to develop thinking in fashion education. They illustrate some of the different ways sustainability is being approached and interpreted through fashion business in Bangladesh. Case studies of People Tree, New Look and Echotex offer insights into ways in which organisations address long hours, low pay and buying practices. Case study Aranya Crafts offers a view focusing on pioneering work in in natural dyes. The case-studies, published in collaboration with Fashioning an Ethical Industry are an output of a British Council funded Development Partnerships in Higher Education (DelPHE) project bringing together LCF, the BGMEA Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT) in Dhaka and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to deliver research that explores better practice and ways forward to improve the competitiveness of the Bangladesh manufacturing sector to add value in this area.
Defra Sustainable Clothing Roadmap
As part of Defra’s Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) programme, voluntary clothing industry initiative co-ordinated by Defra with the aim to improve the environmental and ethical performance of clothing. The Sustainable Clothing Roadmap is in development to reduce the environmental and social impacts across the life cycle of clothing.
