Now in its second year, the annual Future Fabrics Expo organized by The Sustainable Angle will again be hosted by The London College of Fashion, in the prestigious Rootstein Hopkins Space.

With support from the Centre for Sustainable Fashion, The Sustainable Angle has been researching and presenting high quality fashion fabrics which are produced with the intention of reducing environmental impact throughout the supply chain, addressing issues of biodiversity, water, waste and energy. These materials are sourced from international mills, suppliers, and cooperatives, highlighting both environmentally considerate and ethical production.
Along with fabrics and finishes, this edition will also explore a wider framework, looking beyond materials to other stages of the clothing supply chain. The expo aims to creatively showcase novel approaches to improving the fashion design system as well as fashion design practice.

THE LIVING MAP: An online experiment in sharing, co developing and valuing cross-disciplinary research, through the arts and design, around the world.
So far (as part of tracking the global interest in the Catalytic Clothing Project) this has constituted a first attempt – a ‘digital sketch’ – of a potential new tool for Arts and Design Universities the world over to share their research ideas, have them valued (or not) by a global audience, and explore further potential for sharing the co-creation process of new ideas with the public at large.
A brainstorming session to discuss development of the tool will take place on:
27th September from 15:00 – 17:30 at CSM Kings Cross
In attendance will be a number of external organisations/individuals who are all successful in the online world as well as key members of UAL willing to lend their expertise to discussion.
We would also like to include two suitable students from UAL: these individuals would need to have the ability to build on ideas and interact, with an interest perhaps in the visualisation of data or information, connecting up the world of ideas online or the co-creation process. All that is required of participants is that they lend both their enthusiasm and inspiration to the engaging discussion, making the most of an opportunity to contribute ideas within a welcoming forum. This need not be one-off as there may be opportunity to remain involved in this deliberately structured ‘cross-generational’ approach to developing projects beyond academia and for the ‘real world’.
Further information on the project so far is available from the Living Map film available here.
If you would like to be involved, please email Rebecca Mallinson r.mallinson@arts.ac.uk by Friday 17th August 2012 explaining your interest and why you would be a suitable candidate. If you have any questions, you can contact Prof Storey directly via her twitter. Please note that you must be a student of the University of the Arts London in order to participate.

An ongoing research project of CSF member Kate Fletcher, Local Wisdom explores the ‘Craft of Use’ and offers a vision of a new type of prosperity in fashion that is not based on buying and selling more garments.
The project gathers stories and images of the public at community photo shoots where they share how they have used particular garments in ways that save resources and give them satisfaction.
Documenting these provides a platform for such practices to flourish and inspire other users as well as the design and production community.
The project calls on you to share your stories with us and have your photo taken wearing your piece.
Two of these photo shoots are taking place this July in California. Tell your West coast friends! And watch the Local Wisdom site for images and stories from the day.

The photo shoot will take place from 12-5pm at the Marin City Recreation Center.
