June 14, 2012 by renee
The Centre for Sustainable Fashion congratulates Veja on a double win of two prestigious British awards : The Guardian Sustainable Business Award (supply chain) and The Observer Ethical Award (fashion). The Guardian Sustainable Business Awards highlights leadership in the field of sustainable business and encourages organisations to share best practice in the field of sustainability. Veja, recognised by the judges as “positively disruptive of the traditional status quo”, has been awarded in the supply chain category for the fair trade sourcing of its ecological materials (organic cotton, wild rubber from the Amazon and vegetable-tanned leather), its implication on the ground and the long term relationship built with small Brazilian producers.
At the Observer and Vogue Ethical Fashion Awards 2012, the award of Making Sustainable Change a Reality was presented to Veja by Jessica Bumpus, fashion editor at Vogue UK and Lucy Siegle. The Observer Ethical Awards are judged by a panel of ethically-minded celebrities and experts including actor Colin Firth and wife Livia; poet, Ben Okri; supermodel, Lily Cole; and TV presenter, Ben Fogle.
