Sono
Womenswear label Sono was founded by designer Ryoko Mutasono. Ryoko was born in Yokohama, Japan. She became fascinated with world culture and costumes while studying fashion and woven fabric design at Sugino Fashion College in Japan. This led her to move to the UK and study at the London College of Fashion.
Sono is inspired by images of classical design, plants and flowers. With an intuitive sense of colour and fabric, Sono produces pieces that incorporate quirky tailoring, customisation, woven decoration and embellishment. Sono uses organic and ecologically sound fabrics wherever possible.
Ryoko also works as a freelancer with Lowie (fashion accessories) and Design Union (textile design). Her experimental fashion work includes design, marketing, styling and textile design.
Recently Sono has collaborated with a few companies to produce new products, including mobile phone straps (Strapya), textile patterns and straw bags.
“The CSF Business Support Programme was very supportive, and gave me a lot of professional points of view.”
