Michelle Lowe-Holder
After finishing an MA in Knitwear, Michelle Lowe-Holder’s eponymous collection was auspiciously launched with an off-schedule presentation in Browns 2001. Lowe-Holder was then awarded with BFC New Generation sponsorship for three seasons, including an on-schedule catwalk show. Currently the collection is sold in speciality boutiques in Canada, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Italy, and UK.
The collection has continued to develop and evolve, but the core principles have remained the same. The Michelle Lowe- Holder collection is always built on ethical and sustainable concepts in some form or another.
Lowe-Holder is constantly inspired by hand crafted details, which are translated in a feminine, unique and modern way. Most of the techniques are historical with a strong craft heritage. For example Michelle Lowe-Holder’s SS10 collection ‘Summer Smock’ looked back at the ‘labourer’s embroidery’ of the Middle Ages.
Lowe-Holder has been inspired by the idea of creating treasures from trash and her unique style and love of traditional textile embellishment techniques shines through all of her work.
SS11 Collection ‘SUMMER RIBBON RECLAIM’ is a continuation of AW10 and an accessories only collection. Once more the pieces are entirely ethically produced. All pieces are made, produced and sampled in the UK.
SS11 once more utilizes off-cuts of previous collections and end of line cuttings making the process sustainable. The bases are hand cut and combine with historical recreated ‘ribbon art’.
