Bibico lands in Topshop

After a hugely successful Fairtrade fortnight, British label bibico continues to be sold in the basement level at TOPSHOP Oxford Circus, London.
Designed and created by Spanish born Nieves Ruiz, the bibico label based in the beautiful city of Bath, has enjoyed a
phenomenal response to its wearable fairtrade fashion collection at affordable prices through their online boutique.
After designing for high street retailers such as labels Zara and El Corte Ingles in Spain, the UK and Australia, Nieves
decided it was time to launch her own label that satisfied her own creative passion and fulfilled her ethical ideals.
Nieves discovered a project in Mumbai that helps to train women from deprived areas so that they can earn their own
income to support themselves and provide for their families. Using her design background and her ethical fervour,
Nieves lived among the families, getting to know the women at the co-operative and experience first hand their
everyday struggle, and so together they created the bibico spring/summer 09 collection.
Inspired by the colours and fabrics of long Indian summers and the hot styles of the Mediterranean, the bibico SS09
collection features easy-to-wear smocks, tops and dresses all made using fairtrade processes. Commenting on the launch of the latest collection, founder Nieves Ruiz said “We are thrilled that a major high street retailer such as TOPSHOP is supporting the bibico brand. “TOPSHOP provides a great platform for fairtrade fashion to reach Britain’s core high street customers, spreading the
word that ethical fashion doesn’t have to be expensive.
